Internet Romances

Recently I made a social statement in a poem I wrote about Internet romances. Although it was tongue in cheek, I have seen a similar scenario take place. I know that many people have met on the Internet and are extremely happy with their choices. However, my advice would be 'sure, go ahead, but make sure you have all your bases covered.' If you do happen to pick the wrong person they will be very convincing – remember that. They have a motive – sometimes an evil one. Here is the poem:

    INTERNET ROMANCES

Internet romances are the go,
Face-timing your young man will let you know,
Or using Skype to eyeball him will do,
You won’t make a mistake, oh no, not you!

So Lucy found a man away down south–
(The accent that came tumbling from his mouth!)
‘But he’s the man for me,’ she said, convinced,
‘We think alike,’ she said, her words weren’t minced.

Her mother was appalled, ‘You don’t know him!’
She cut her mother off, ‘I love my TIm!
When we’re together he won’t wear that hat…
He’ll cut his long hair off – I’m sure of that.’

‘He’ll take me out to dinner when I like-
He said he will – he rides a mountain bike,
It saves the fuel – he’s eco through and through-
I like the man who’s careful, wouldn’t you?

But luggage on the bike was difficult,
And thighs not used to riding felt assault-
His manners out at dinner were a shock…
And when the bill came- Lucy paid the lot!
