Jade's New Garden... A children's story
Sometimes I am inspired to write stories suitable for little children. This one below was inspired by my granddaughter and her grandfather building a little garden together.
-!-
Jada, just three years old, was helping Grandpa in the garden.
“Grandpa, this yellow flower is my best one,” she said.
“That one is called a marigold, Jada,” Grandpa told her.”Do you like yellow?”
-2-
Just then, Nanna, in her pink apron, called out from the kitchen. “Want to help me cook, Jada?”
But Jada replied, “I can’t Nanna, ‘cause I’m helping Granpa. And I haven’t got a pink apron.”
“Oh,”’ said Nanna.
-3-
“I think we’ll take a trip to the nursery now, Jada,” Grandpa reached down to take her hand.
“What’s the nursery, Grandpa?” asked Jada.
“You’ll see. Let’s go and wash our hands now.”
-4-
They drove to the nursery in Grandpa’s shiny new blue car.
-5-
“Ooh, Grandpa!” Jada exclaimed when she saw the garden shop.
“Look at all the pretty flowers!”
-6-
Grandpa selected a long trough and a bag of soil.
“This little garden will be for you, Jada,” he said, “Which flowers would you like to grow?”
Jada picked out purple violets, pink stocks, and yellow marigolds. Grandpa picked a pretty
blue watering can, just the right size for a little girl to hold.
-7-
When they returned home, Jada helped Grandpa to plant all the new flowers.
“Now, Jada, when you come to visit you must remember to water your little garden,”
Grandpa told her. Jada watered them straight away with her new blue watering can.
-8-
Once again Nanna called from the kitchen “Who is ready for butterfly cakes and a cold orange drink?”
Jada and Grandpa were ready!
The end
