UPDATE March 2013 Woodheap and West Wind
I am well into using my new computer that Peter built for me
now. It is the third computer that he has built. This one has an especially big
screen to make it easier for me to see the writing and I was able to pick out
the colour of the computer itself, (bright orange.) The special keyboard has a
track-pad because using a mouse is impossible. My fingers have deteriorated to
such an extent that using Dragon Naturally Speaking is essential for me to
write at all. He bought a little over bed table on wheels from eBay and has
bolted the screen down so it can be wheeled to the chair when I need it.
I must admit I miss my little Mac Book Air a lot – it was so
convenient and easy to use; but unfortunately Dragon Dictate just did not work.
That is the dictation program available on Apple. I am slowly becoming more
familiar with Microsoft word again and at least now I can write and my brain is
active.
It’s the only part of me that is (active.) I seem to have
completely regained the little strength I had before going to hospital. I’ve
started going back to respite once a week where I play 500, (or other card
games,) with a helper. Unfortunately I have had to ask them to start feeding me
now at lunchtime. My friend and I sit up the back at the same table. It doesn’t
really worry me but my friend is somewhat embarrassed by having to be fed.
I guess that will be the least of our worries before this is
all finished.
The weather in Brisbane has been idyllic the last few days –
bright sunny skies – night-time showers occasionally and the air a crisp 27 to
30°. February – notorious for high humidity and matching temperatures – was
just beautiful. It is hardly like autumn today. Perhaps it’s an Indian summer! (34°C
and fine.)
